Have Gained Weight After Delivery. Following Diet And Exercising Regularly But Not Much Of Use. What To Do?

Hello Doctor,

I am 40 yrs old lady with 2 kids. My second delivery was in Dec 2009. That time I gained weight of 85 kgs and in the last 3 .5 years, I have lost only 13 kgs. I do exercises 5 days a week for an hour, regular 45 minutes of brisk walking and regular dieting as well. However, I don't lose much weight especially around belly. My Haemoglobin is 10.4. Please suggest if this is happening because of Anemia. Thanks

Hello dear,

To tackle the problem of overweight, a low calorie low fat diet should be followed along with regular exercise & intake of medications like Iron, Vit B12 & Folic acid supplements. They help in blood formation & will prevent anemia.

1. Avoid eating white breads, rice and pasta. They have high calories and increases the blood sugar level.
2. It is better to have complex carbohydrates such as whole wheat bread, oatmeal and brown rice.
3. Consume low fat versions of milk and cheese and avoid oily foods.
4. Have a diet rich in low calorie protein foods such as egg whites, skinless chicken, fish, etc.
5. It is better to avoid soft drinks and fruit juices which are rich in calories.
Instead, drink large amount of water (about 6 to 8 glasses) throughout the day.
6. Dietary fiber such as whole grains, vegetables, fruits, and nuts can also be included in the diet.

Wishing you a Good Health.
Thanks & take care.
