Have Had Crohns Disease, Fibromyalgia. On Cymbalta And Percocet. Had Resection Surgery. What Can We Expect?

HI I have had Crohns disease for 17 years now and just had my third resection surgery. I have also had widespread body pain for about ten years now and was just diagnosed with fibromyalgia. I am now on Cybalta and have been on percocet for about 2 years now. 5/325mg! I only will take two a day because I am not of fain of taking medications. My question is that the percocet has now become not strong enough to help with the pain of both illnesses and was wondering what would be a little stronger then this. I work and want to continue to work for as long as my body will let me. My doctor said he will put me off perminately if he see's it is time to stop, as I am getting worse. thanks

Hi and thanks for the query,

Appropriate outcomes are seen when drugs are taken appropriately. I think you should do your best to comply with the recommendations you agree upon with your doctor. I understand it could challenging managing these conditions, and with at times many drugs. However, when well taken, with a bit of sacrifice, the marked increase in your quality of life shall be obtained.

I suggest you continue with Percocet for now. Other morphines do exist, but the fear is becoming dependent on them, which of course is not the best thing.
Taken Percocet and Acetaminophen when pain is so intense could be useful and very helpful. In case the pain becomes so unbearable, your doctor would prescribe a stronger morphine that he can certainly easily monitor for side effects of addiction. Consult your primary care physican to discuss these options with him. Wishing you the best of health and kind regards.
