Hello
T2N1M0 is a stage II B cancer.
In that case you have two options Breast conservation surgery and Modified radical mastectomy. In Earlier case if the tumour is less than 4cms breast can be preserved by removing only the quadrant involved with cancer and after surgery chemotherapy 6 cycles and radiation tharapy has to be taken. If the tumour is more than 4cms than pre-operative(neo-adjuvant chemotherapy) is to be given to down stage the disease and breast conservation surgery can be done .
In Modified radical mastectomy the whole of the breast tissue is removed and after surgery chemotherapy and radiotherapy if needed depending on the Histopathological examination report.
The prognosis depends on Histopathological examination report and ER/PR (estrogen and progesterone) receptor studies and HER2 receptor studies of the breast tissue. Also it may guide for further hormonal therapy and other modalities for treatment.
In any case 5 year survival for stage IIB breast cancer is approximately 74% if proper treatment is taken. Chances of recurrences are less if all protocols are followed and patient kept under regular follow up recurrence can be detected early and managed well.
Complications of surgery and side effects of chemotherapy and radiation therapy are inevitable but can be managed well under expert guidance.
Get a physicians evaluation done before surgery and chemotherapy for control of Hypertension and blood sugar and also it will be good to get 2-D Echo done before taking chemotherapy.
Diet will be regular after post opertion like low salt diet for hypertension and less sugar and calorie intake for Diabetes.
Few patients do not tolerate regular food after chemotherapy. Avoid spicy foods and drink lots of water after chemotherapy.
wish you Good health and faster recovery for your Mom
