Having Crohns Disease And Tapering Down Prednisone. Fluid Retention Was Bad Due To Low BP

I am tapering down on prednisone after being on it all summer with crohns disease. My fluid retention has been horrible, and the doctors have changed my diuretics a few times due to low bp and low potassium. I am at 80/40 mg daily of torsemide now and 50 mg a day aldactone. Still at 5 mg prednisone and going down. I am sodium hypersensitive and it is so much worse now. I have gained fluid weight, lost it and gained a lot of it back again. They have stated diastolic failure due to leg swelling, however, ekg and echo, chest x ray all good. Can the water weight stop when I get completely off the prednisone? Thanks

Hello,

Thanks for posting on HCM,

If your fluid weight came after you started treatment with prednisone it possible that you might be suffering from cushing's syndrome induced by the corticosteroid. Ones tapering is complete, you will gradually be loosing the fluid retained or edema. The effects of prednisone induced cushing's syndrome will be improved ones you are properly treated (if cushing's syndrome is actually the diseases that you are having).
Your blood pressure should be closely monitored for changes too and medications given according to the readings.

Hope this helps
