Having Persistent High Fever, Difficulty In Passing Motion, Back Pain & Lethargy. On Antibiotics. Blood Analysis Done. Cause And Cure?
Hi, my 77-year old father has had fever for 10 days now. It started with extreme shivering and his fever went up to 104 degrees. The next day it went down to 101 and has been hovering at 100 - 99 the last few days. He went on a 6 day course of antibiotics but the fever persisted.
His blood test is normal except for his ESR which was 64 on the 4th day. His WBC was 10.2. Negative for malaria, dengue, typhoid.
Last few days he has had difficult passing motion (mildly constipated), lower back is hurting & he is always tired. I am very stressed as to what this could mean.
Hello, Is your father diabetic? Kindly repeat the tests for malaria and typhoid by getting a malaria antigen test and blood culture and sensitivity. Also get urine tested for routine and microscopic examination and a possible urine culture,if some infection is detected. Get a plain X-ray chest along with ultrasound abdomen to look for the focus of any infection. Get these tests done and then we proceed ahead. Thanks
