Having Seizures After A Head Injury. In Coma. Any Advice?

my friend was just in a quad accident was wearing a helmet and flipped his quad having his head smashed by the quad .... he was flown to the nearest hospital where he was put into a medically induced coma because even with being sedated he was resisting treatment and was in such a critical state they had to take action ... now he is starting to have seizures and they won't attempt to wake him up from the coma until they stop what can be the cause of the seizure and is this normal for some what with a TBI

Hi,
Your friend had major trauma causing severe traumatic brain injury.
Medically induced coma is a type of treatment for cerebral edema and raised ICT

Since he is throwing seizure he should be put on anaesthetic doses of midazolam for next 48 hrs and titration to be done as per seizure.Meantime ambulatory EEG also to be done.Meantime other anti-epileptics like enc-orate, levipil to be started.Discuss with your treating physician for same

Seizure is occuring due to brain damage ,that is not normal.

Prognosis depends on MRI brain ,and clinical examination of him in subsequent days.

Hope this will help you
