Hit Knee And Cap Has Been Numb. What Can I Do About It?

In a recent softball game I slid in the outfield to retrieve a ball. The ground was pretty hard and I hit my left knee flat on the ground. Since then, the skin just below the knee cap has been numb. I can scratch the skin s surface and it feels numb. Did I damage the nerve endings in that area? I also got tripped during a basketball game last year and fell on my right knee. It became numb for a long time but over time the feeling has come back. I am a 44 year old man who still likes to participate is sports and am just wondering why my knee becomes numb.

Orthopaedic Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

I have studied your case.

Due to fall there is contusion over patella.

I will advise you if possible do X ray of knee and you can consult me with reports or with your doctor.

Another possibility of knee pain can be due to meniscus injury ,which can be confirmed by clinical examination and if required MRI.
Numbness may reduce gradually.

Till time take analgesic and methylcobalamine.

Hope this answers your query. If you have additional questions or follow up queries then please do not hesitate in writing to us. I will be happy to answer your queries.

Wishing you good health.

Take care
