How Can Pain And Swelling In The Hips Be Treated?

I am a very active and healthy 70 year old female. I tripped today in my house and fell on my hip. It hurt just a little and then maybe 20 minutes later my hip swelled up like a mountain. It is the size of my hand. I iced it and there is a little pain. I can walk ok.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Since you belong to elderly age group, I would rather recommend that X-ray of the hip needs to be taken. Kindly consult an Orthopedician for clinical evaluation and correlation with X-ray findings for appropriate management. In case there is no evidence of fracture, you can be treated conservatively with anti-inflammatory and analgesic medications.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Ashakiran. S.
