How Can Pain In The Heels Be Treated?

I am 69yrs, and have been taking yoga and aerobics 2X/week for a couple years. I recently added a high impact Zumba class, and after about a month, my left heel developed quite a bit of pain. A physical therapist suggested plantar fasciitis, and I began wearing a plantar insole (all the time), a compression sock , and lately, a thermal plantar bootie during the night. This has been going on for a couple months, and has really been crimping my ability to walk w/o pain. Today, a friend suggested that plantar f. usually comes in both feet together, and that maybe thats not what I ve got...I thought of heel spurs, but I read that they usually come w/plantar F. I ve been trying to avoid DXrays and a $50 podiatrist visit...What do you think? Thanx, Jenny...This is very misleading...what happened to the WebMD site I was writing to?

HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

Heel spurs are the same as plantar fasciitis. Though the pain can persist for weeks for most persons, in some , it can go on for months unfortunately.

Plantar fasciitis can affect one or both feet, it varies. In most cases treatment consists of : (1) as much rest and reduction of pressure on the affected foot as possible
(2)there are also specific exercises for plantar fasciitis that are necessary for healing to occur. They need to be done daily
(3)pain medication, mainly anti inflammatory medication is also needed as well
(4)if there is no change then may invasive treatment would be needed

I hope this helps
