How Lacquer Can Penetrate The Nail And Destroy The Fungi?
As an Advanced Foot Nurse, I cannot find any scientific data to support the claim that loprox painted on lacquer has any effect. Some of my clients have been prescribed this medication, but they show no improvement. Since the fungi is under the nail bed, I have difficulty understanding how this lacquer can penetrate the nail and destroy the fungi. I can see how it will be effective on skin, but not nail.
Please forward me your evidence based material.
Thank you

I did'nt realize I need to pay for evidence based data. I'll research this myself. Thank you
Hi, Thanks for writing to us. Prior to applying any nail lacquer slight filing of nails followed by cleaning with an alcohol swab is advised. Nail lacquers are usually advised to be applied once or twice weekly. These antifungal lacquers are resistent to water, get absorbed through nail to work on fungus thriving on nail bed. Usually amorolfine is used as a nail lacquer and it has a long half life, even after discontinuing its use, it persists in nails and nail bed for long. There is no doubt that oral therpay in combination with topical is better. But sometimes if fungal infection is limited or if medicines cant be prescribed orally then lacquers can be given alone. You may look for studies on pubmed. There are many studies to support the use of lacquers that you can find on pubmed. Hope this helped. Take care
