How Long Can Prednisolone Be Taken Safely At Low Dose?

My father in law is suffering from cryptogenic organising pneumonia, he has been on prednisolone twice for a short duration, I think once for 5 days then for 2 weeks, his symptoms recurred within 2 days of stopping. How long can you safely take prednisolone safely at a low dose?

Hi,
Thanks for writing in.

Prednisolone is a steroid medicine to be taken in regulated doses. It should be taken for the duration recommended by doctor and not continuously as it can cause potentially harmful effects leading to cushings syndrome. There is no safe duration.
