How Long Does Carafate Take To Stop Stomach Pain?

Hi, I have a hiatal hernia and gerd. I stopped my med for about a year because I felt so good from diet and exercise. I'm under a ton of stress at work and my diet and workout routine has slipped. Now my hiatal hernia is going wild and I'm experiencing a lot of pain. Started nexium again and was just given carafate. How long does carafate take to kick in and stop the wicked stomach pain. Feels like my stomach is spasming. Thanks!

Gastroenterologist 's  Response
Hello! Thanks for putting your query in HCM. I am a Gastroenterologist (DM). Carfaate contaains sucralfate which only helps in healing the ulcer by coationg the gastric lining. It does not lead to quick relief. Instead take some anatacid which contains magnesium or aluminium salts. Continue with neksium.
I hope I have answered your query and this will help you. If you have any further query I will be happy to answer that too. Remain in touch and get-well soon.
