How Long Does The Changed Thyroid Medication Take To Be Effective?

Hi. I am on thyroxine since last 20 years. Current dose is 150 mcg. Recent test indicates normal T3 but elevated TSH. I changed the source of medicine from local (pakistani) to German to get better results. Since I am not sure if I should keep same dose or reduce it , kindly tell me how long it takes for the changed medicine to be effective.

Hi, dear
I have gone through your question. I can understand your concern.

You have hypothyroidism and you are taking thyroxine. Still your TSH is high so it suggest that you need to increase the dosage. You have changed the medicine. Effect of new drugs take up to 6 weeks. So continue it and repeat the TSH level after 2 or 3 months. If it still remains high then you need to increase the dosage.

Hope I have answered your question. If you have any doubts then feel free to ask me. I will be happy to answer.
Thanks for using health care magic. Wish you a very good health.
