How Long Will It Take To Heal And Have Sex After Cervical Polyp Removal?
I had a cervical polyp removed Wednesday and awaiting test results. If okay how long should you wait before sex, how long does it takes to heal, I have no bleeding. I have fibroids now for 2535 years that never have brothered me and always was told to leave them along and just keep a watch. My main concern is how long does the polyp, if okay, takes to heal and should I have been given antibiotics.
Hello and welcome to HCM, I am Dr Nilajkumar a consultant gynecologist and I will be helping you in your queries. In understand your concern. Polypectomy or removal of polyp is a simple surgery. Sometimes the base of the polyp may need to be cauterized with heat to control bleeding. In this case the healing may take a little longer upto 2 weeks. If the polyp was removed by avulsion a healing period of 7-10 days may be sufficient. You may confirm the method of removal with your doctor or just wait for 2 weeks after the procedure before beginning sexual activity.
I also advise to use condoms for the first 2 weeks to prevent any infection as the part may be raw.
The need for antibiotics is entirely at the discretion of the doctor. If the doctor feels that the polyp is not infected and there is no other infection, antibiotics may not be needed.
Hope this was helpful. Feel free to ask any further queries and I will be happy to help. Thanks for using HCM. Have a good day. Dr Nilajkumar Bagde Consultant Obstetrics and Gynecology
