How Much Amount Of Exercise Is Acceptable For 58-year-old?

I ve just been diagnosed with Osteioarthritis, with disc & joint degeneration, mostly in my lower back. I m 58 years old, had started to kick box in Feb. this year, but now I m not sure that it is the best form of exercise for me. How long should my stretches, or any form of exercising last per day?

Hello,

Welcome to HCM and thank you for your query.
Appreciate your desire for a healthy life.
I agree with you that kick boxing is not the best exercise for you as you have a degenerative disease affecting the vertebral column, as it may lead to disc prolapses.
Moderate exercise of 30 minutes per day is what is advisable for you.
It is any exercise that raises your heart rate to 60-70% of your maximal heart rate. Maximal heart rate is 220- age . ( 220-58 = 162) The intensity of your exercise should get your heart rate to 97-113 beats per minute.
Swimming is a good form of exercise for some one with osteoarthritis and joint degeneration.
Best wishes,
Dr. Noble Zachariah
