How To Cure Pain In Upper Back And Numbness In Finger?
Hi, i m 23 years old. about a.month ago I started having occasional upper back/base of the neck stinging pain mostly when I sitted for long periods of time while trying to maintain a good posture. Recently, this pain has become more often and not related to the activity mentioned before. Also, now it associates to fifth right finger numbness (and only this finger) with stinging and almost constant elbow pain as well ( on its medial aspect). There is no history of trauma.
Your neck pains associated with numbness of the finger and pain of the limb points to a prolapsed disc in the cervical spine of the neck. These nerves runs from the c spine down to the hand. This needs an MRI of the c spine which will reveal the status of the discs and evidence of pressure on the nerves.
Meanwhile you may take an analgesic (Tramadol / paracetamol), along with skeletal muscle relaxant like mydocalm. You may also need medications like gabapentin and pregabalin which your doctor will prescribe along with these steps take rest and warm packs. The MRI will help your doctor to decide if surgery is necessary or these methods will suffice.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. George Verghese, Orthopedic Surgeon
