Hello,

Thank you for asking at HCM.

I would like to know more details about your mother's complaints, like how they begun, whether they respond to any drugs, what drugs she uses, what other medical conditions she has, whether she requires any other drugs, whether she has rashes along with itching, which parts itch more, any seasonal or day/night variations, etc.

Above details would help me to make more specific suggestions as there are numerous causes for itching.

At present, considering your history, I would like to make suggestions for her as follows:

1. Dry skin is a very common cause of itching at this age, especially after menopause. I would suggest her regular application of moisturizing lotion, especially immediately after bathing, to retain moisture within skin. This will reduce her itching.

2. I usually also suggest my such patients a good multivitamin-multimineral containing vitamin A, D, E, zinc, selenium, essential fatty acids, for 2-3 months which also help improve skin and immunity.

3. For symptom relief of itching, I would suggest her to use an antihistamine like cetirizine or levocetirizine or fexofenadine.

Hope above suggestions will be helpful to her. To give more specific suggestions, detailed information is required.

Should you have any further query, please feel free to ask at HCM.

Wish your mother the best of the health ahead.

Thank you & Regards.
