Hi,I am Dr. Alexander H. Sheppe (Psychiatrist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
hi doctor! i am currently 18 years old and for the past 8 years i have been masturbating though not daily but somehow i am fed up with all this.I have a high ambition to be doctors like you and want to concentrate on my studies.i just think that masturbation is affecting my memory and concentration. So please suggest me some steps that i can take to curb this habit and display my full potential.
Do not worry about masturbation, it is a good healthy habit and from various studies conducted is also a mode of releasing frustration. In my opinion, the only real advise you need is to control your needs and sexual desires and not have them control you.
If at all you feel sexually aroused, try to distract yourself and not encourage the feeling. Every time you feel aroused, take a cold shower, or go for a walk, or go out for a game of footsie with your friends, etc. But avoid all activities that can further arouse your like avoid watching television as there is a lot of adult material easily available on television these days, etc.
Hope this helps and I wish you a bright and happy future.
Best wishes.
