How To Treat Headaches And Chest Pain Of An Epilepsy Patient?

My daughter, age 21 was diagnosed with epilepsy approximately 1 and 1/2 yrs ago. She currently takes 600 mg of lamictal extended release and is on oral birth control medication, her Dr also recommends that she take a prenatal vitamin daily because she is of child bearing age. She suffers almost daily from headaches and recently has had a new symptom of chest pains appear. She is in good health, exercises at least a few times a week, she plays team sports. Dr says not much we can do about headaches and does not even advise that she take over the counter headache meds he says it is just an unfortunate side effect. Question: Should I be concerned with her new symptoms, chest pains, and is there anything we can do about her headaches? Anything we can ask the Doctor to look for? Really concerned about chest pains

Question : Should I be concerned with her new symptoms, chest pains, and is there anything we can do about her headaches? Anything we can ask the Doctor to look for? Really concerned about chest pains

Answer : Headache is a known complication of Lamotrigine. But Chest Pain has not been known to be associated with it. Hence, I suggest you consult a Cardiologist / Physician for Chest Pain

I would request you to treat the chest pain independent of the seizure and treat it at once

Hope you found the answer helpful.

Question: Should I be concerned with her new symptoms, chest pains, and is there anything we can do about her headaches?

Answer : Headaches are common with the drug you mentioned. But Chest Pain needs immediate attention. There is very little chance of this drug causing chest pain and more chance of some other cause of chest pain. Please consult a Cardiologist / Physician at the earliest
