Infant Having Seizure Attack, Fever, Congestion. Given Valparin. Is This High Dosage For The Baby And Have Any Side Effects?

my daughter is 8 month old and weighs 8 kgs..she had a seizure attack a week back...she is being given Valparin 200 2ml twice daily...she had no fever at the time of seizure nor the seizure was followed by a fever...however she got fever the next..the fever is now subsided but she still suffers from cough and congestion...my biggest worry is about the medication Valparin 200 being administered...is it too high for a baby? Also ince she has congestion she threw back tonights dose of valparin and is now fast asleep..should i try to give her valaparin again or is it ok if the dose is skipped and given the routine dose in the morning....is there any alternative to valparin as google suggests numerous side effects..please help me out

Pediatrician 's  Response
Hi Dear

Welcome the platform of Health care magic

First and single episode of seizures to a 8 month baby, accompanied with cough and cold, should be having some fever( might be unnoticed).

It appears to be Febrile seizure, until and unless proved by EEG.

Fever should be taken care of presently and in future to avoid the recurrence of seizures.

Valporin is added if the EEG is positive.

Febrile seizures can be prevented by taking care of fever with prompt and effective tepid sponging along with antipyretic medicines.

Some time diazepam suppositories/oral preparations are of help in controlling and preventing the febrile seizures.

Hope the query is answered.

Thanks
