Infant With Flu, Nose Bleed. Is This Dangerous? Need To Go To Emergency?
Hi! I have a 2 years and 8 month old boy. He have the flue right now. The problem is that he is having nose bleed often (the last two ones in less than 3 hours). The last one was difficult to stop :( All the blod makes me nervous. But is it dangerous? Should I take him to emergency if he starts bleeding again? I cannot sleep (here it is in the middle of the night) so please answer as fast as you can. Best regards, Sergio.
Hi Sergio,
Thank your for your query,
Nose bleeding in child with flu is due to bleeding from the weak portion of the nasal cavity.
You can stop the bleeding by firmly pressing the bleeding side nostri and holding it for some time against the nasal bridge.
This method stop bleeding and only one nostril should be pressed at one time to allow the breathing from the other nostril.
If bleeding continues inspite of this method then consult your doctor or emergency.
Hope i have answered your query.
Hi
Thanks for your query,
Epistaxis ior nose bleed is commonly caused by
trauma by continuous nasal picking by children, foreign body
inflammatory conditions like allergic rhinosinusitis.
I advise you to take your child to ER so that he will be evaluated and managed accordingly.
In the meantime i advise you to put ice over nose.pinch nose for 5 to 10 minutes.in case he bleeds again.use paraffin drops.
Hello
Nose bleeding in a child is usually following nasal prick by nails.
In flue there is increased nasal secretions which get dried. Injury of nasal mucosa is common following nasal prick.
In most of the cases it resolve by simple pinching of nose.
But as in your case if bleeding is severe, evaluation by a physician will be needed to rule out associated bleeding disorder ( like hemophilia or other coagulation abnormality). Keeping the nasal mucosa moist with help of saline drops will help.
So I would suggest you to avoid nose prick, in case of bleeding pinch the nose andif bleeding is more consult a physician immediately.
