Injury On The Half Muscle With A Knife. Had Stitches For Tendon Tear. Pain In The Leg. Do I Have Damaged A Muscle?

I cut my leg while pig hunting with a knife above the calf muscle in the back of my leg. It has about 8 stitches in it but i am worried becuase i still cannot walk without a lot of pain. Where I cut it is not sore at all but lower down in the back of my leg is really sore. Do you think I have damaged something or is it just the muscle that i cut. THe doctor said no tendons etc were cut and just stitched it up in his room.

Hi,

It seems like a superficial cut injury in the leg. If the doctor, who stitched the wound up in his room, has examined it thoroughly and has found no injury to neurovascular bundle, then you are safe.

Please give adequate rest and time for the wound to heal. Do not start doing strenuous physical activity soon.

You can get an x-ray of the affected lower leg done to confirm that things are fine.

Wish you quick recovery.

Orthopaedic Surgeon Dr. Dr. Praveen Tayal's  Response
Hello.
Thanks for writing to us.
The muscle injury you had must have lead to a fibrosis after healing. This fibrozed mass has a lesser elasticity and causes the pain on walking and running. It will take some time for the things to normalize. You can do a hot fomentation in the area for relief.
I hope this information has been both informative and helpful for you.
