Is Cipro Safe And Effective In The Treatment Of Diverticulitis?

I ve been diagnosed with diveriticulitis and so far a week of bactarin and a week of amoxicillin have not helped. I was not able to take Flagyl as it made me very sick. Now the G. I. doctor has prescribed Cipro 500 mgs twice a day . I have nerve damage and joint related arthritis and after reading the side effects, I m scared to death to take it. How bad is this drug? I m terrified to take it. The doctor doesn t know what else to do with me. I m 70 years old.

There are possible side effects that may occur but these effects , like most side effects, tend to occur in the minority not the majority of persons.

It is possible that you may use it and not experience any problems though the opposite is unfortunately also possible as well.

In older persons, there is an increased risk of injury to the tendons, this is one of the major issues along with a risk of nerve damage.
You would need to assess your present conditions, determine if there are any other options and weigh the benefits and risks.
