Is HCP Drops Diet Advisable For Me With Thyroid Nodules?
I am wanting to try the hcg drops diet. I have several non growing thyroid nodules, goiter (not visually evident) and am on lifetime Warfarin (2 1/2 mg/day x5, 5 mg/day x2). I have had 2 or 3 pulmonary infarctions 40 and 3 yrs ago, due to the mutated gene and used oral contraceptives when I was 21 yrs old. Will be 61 in less than two weeks. I weighed 125 lbs at 5 6 until 1/1/08, when I quit smoking after 45 years. Have gained about FIFTY pounds w/o trying. I am desperate...would this HCG drops diet be safe for me? My daughter who s getting married next year has lost 13 pounds in less than two weeks, and I d like to try to do the same and feel better about myself.
Please do not start the HCG diet. It has been associated with so many side-effects and you have a lot to deal with right now. It took you a long time to put this weight on and any "quick fixes" will generally be temporary and in this case, dangerous for you. The drops are not as dangerous as the Very Low Calorie Diet that goes with it. There are many documented medical problems with this diet, don't invite any more problems than what you have. Edema and blood clots are the two that I worry about with you. Get out and walk, follow a low calorie balanced diet. It will take time. Work with a support group and a dietitian if you can. Good luck. Kathy Shattler, MS,RDN
