Hi,I am Diwashish Biswas (Internal Medicine Specialist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi, might daughter in in Seoul, South Korea, teaching English. She was in a taxi accident. The orthopaedic doctor gave her a blue pill, MLX 75. Do you know, by chance, if that is codeine? Or possibly an NSAID? How would you advise she find out (she doesn t speak Korean).
MLX appears to be Meloxicam which is a Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) used to treat moderate to severe pain like post traumatic inflammation, joint pains, muscle sprain, etc. It is not codeine (an opioid drug used to treat severe pain). Let her talk to her doctor to give the generic name of the prescribed drug to confirm it to be NSAID. Since Meloxicam is known to cause acidity related stomach upset, let her take a proton pump inhibitor (Pantoprazole) or H2 receptor blocker (Ranitidine) along with Meloxicam to prevent the acidity related issues. Hope this answers your query.
