Is A Purple Bruise After An Injury Dangerous For A Baby?

My baby just fell four steps down the stairs. He cried for about 7 or less minutes. He is walking okay and doesn't show any signs of a concussion. However he does have a bruise about an inch long and inch and a half wide, its purplish and has a few red dots, should I be concerned?

Hello. Thank you for your question. this is a very common occurrence in children of this age. The bruising that you see is not anything to be concerned about. in fact, the bruise may look worse tomorrow than it does today. It is still not concerning. the fact that he cried immediately and did not lose consciousness is the most reassuring part of the story. The only other thing to keep an eye out for is vomiting. Any vomiting occurring within 24 hours of the fall should be reported to your doctor. In the absence of that sign, there is no cause for concern.
