Is A Red Spot On The Incision Site Normal?

my child had tethered cord surgery 40 days ago. After 20 days of surgery, the stitches were removed and doctor told us that the incision ( 5 inch vertical) had healed well. Today, i was giving her a shower, i noticed a red spot on incision, on the exact place, where she had a mole like fat before surgery. The spot is dry, means no leakage and she is not having any fever and has the same apetite like yesterday. She is 27 months.

Thanks for your query

Tethered cord syndrome which your child has been operated for, is usually associated with skin vascular conditions like hemangioma / lymphangioma.

This is pretty common and they will manifest in the area of the tethering or scar. By itself, ti is not a cause of worry. It is good that she is healing well. IF the reddish spot keeps increasing or growing rapidly, local treatment by wayof sclerotherapy or laser or general medications to reduce the hemangioma are available.

In summary, this is quite common and to be expected, dont worry as the primary issue of teh cord being tethered has been resolved
