Hallow Dear,

Your sister had undergone surgery for fibroids removal. Was her uterine lining (endometrium) evaluated before removing the fibroids? Fibroid is a condition due to high Oestrogen levels. This leads to overgrowth of the endometrium, some times even the cancer also. At the age of 40 years, endometrial evaluation is mandatory when fibroids exist.

The blood clot she has passed could be due to bleeding from the endometrium. Please get her ultrasonography done. If it shows thick endometrium, she should undergo endometrial evaluation by hysteroscopy and microscopic study. Ultrasonography will also reveal if any more small fibroids are present in the uterus.

The other probability is infection. However, she is not having fever. So this probability seems remote.

Please report to her Gynaecologist ASAP.

I hope this helps you.

Hi there,
Welcome to HCM,
Heavy and prolonged bleeding during period sand bleeding after intercourse in a women after 40 years needs further evaluation. It could be recurrence of fibroids, or excess thickening of the lining of the womb, or some problem with the neck of the womb(cervix).
She should have an internal examination by a Gynaecologist to check for any lesion on the cervix, and an ultrasound to see for the presence of fibroids and the lining of the womb.
Further treatment can be planned depending on the examination and ultrasound.
Hope this helps.
Regards.
