Is Diltiazem Gel Effective For Anal Fissure?
Hi Doctor,
I am suffering from anal fissure for the past 4 months, consulted a doctor he presribed Diltiazem 2 % gel, to apply. After using for 1 month I felt better. But the pain got reduced after medication. But still pain is there, how long should I use that gel, also I apply the gel in to my anus, is it good? or just applying out side the anal area is good to heal better. Kindly advise.

Usually a fissure in anus heals by 4 to 6 weeks with medications..i am sure your doctor must have advised you to take plenty of fruits,stool softeners (Isapgol or Cremaffin syrup etc..) along with applying the gel..if you strictly follow this usually the fissure heals by 4 to 6 weeks..My advice is u apply the medication for two more weeks as you said that the pain got reduced early with the gel..if u have pain even after 6 weeks then better to consult your doctor again and get a opinion regarding surgery..I hope i have answered your query...get well soon..
