Is Enlarged Uterus With Hypodensities Left Adnexal Lesion On Left Ovary With History Of Ovarian Cysts And Fibroids Concerning?

My CT scan showed enlarged uterus with hypodensities left adnexal lesion on left ovary.. Suggested MRI to follow up. What does all this mean? I am not pregnant and do have fibroids and cysts on my ovaries, just curious about the wording as no mention of fibroids or cysts.

Thanks for your question. Many women, unfortunately in my opinion, have their pelvis imaged by CT scanning. This image test is frequently misleading in the area of the uterus, pelvis and ovaries. A much more helpful imaging study to delineate fibroids or ovarian cysts is a pelvic ultrasound. An MRI is also more specific when imaging the pelvis but is much more expensive than an ultrasound. A CT scan frequently leads to a radiologist requesting either an ultrasound or MRI to further evaluate the pelvic structures.
I hope this answers your questions but if you need further information, please don't hesitate to contact me.
