Is It Bad To Take 81mg Asa Daily For Leaking Valves?

I have 2 leaking valves. Is it bad to take 81mg Asa daily? Also is this disease something to be overly concerned with? I also have COPD and I feel so tired and lethargic ALL the time. I feel that most of my health problems are related to my heart. as a small child I suffered from tachycardias weekly. I would pass out at times. Nobody seemed that concerned. I was told to hold my breath for as long as possible or until my heart would calm down. This condition diminished during my child bearing years. I had 5 fairly normal children. My oldest had a small VSD which has atrophied. Now at the age of 68, I am diagnosed with leaking heart values and the heart murmur that I have always had. Should I be concerned? My cardiologist just brushed it off. I really need your honest opinion. I just retired after 42 yrs. nursing. Would like to live a little longer. Thank You, Alana Allen ARNP

Hello,

Low dose of Aspirin (ASA) of 81 mg acts as a blood thinner and helpful to prevent formation of any clot. So, you have to take it daily. Only precaution to be taken that is protects yourself from any injury.

As you already concerned with cardiologist, so continue medications as advised and do regular follow up.

Along with that, do daily exercises and walking to keep you healthy and fit. I will suggest to do lipid profile test and random blood sugar (if not done earlier) after consultation.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Shyam B. Kale
