Is It Normal To Experience Black Bowel Movement And Excessive Hunger After An Appendix Surgery?

I am still in hospital after having surgery after a ruptured appendix. This morning before I was due to be discharged my stomach started to swell and I passed a very smelly black stool. They want to send me home this evening and said it is normal after an infection in the appendix, I am still in a lot of pain and concerned ?? After reading on it this isn’t normal and I am a bit worried, I am aging I probably won’t get an answer but I would like to put the question to you anyway.
Ps I also have a massive appetite which is abnormal for me but maybe because I am lying around and not active

Hi,

Dark stool, or stool that looks black in color, is not normal after surgery and often indicates bleeding in the upper part of the digestive tract. Tarry, sticky looking stool is also not normal.

The vast majority of surgeries do not cause blood to be seen in the stool, and it is not considered normal after a procedure.

Hope I have answered your query.
