Is It Normal To Have Constant Diarrhea With Blood After Laparoscopic Nissen Fundoplication? Taking Antibiotics For Chest Infection
on Monday 13th January I had a Laparoscopic Nissen fundoplication, I was sent home on Wednesday 15th, although I was reaching and feeling very sick. My own GP diagnosed a chest infection and gave me antibiotics. I am only having liquid food, but now have accute diarrhea with blood in it. I am 57years old of very good health, but starting to feel very weak, is it normal to pass blood and have constant diarrhea after this type of surgery?
No its not normal. Generally surgery has nothing to do with your bowels and no diarrhea should be present after it. But antibiotics can easily cause diarrhea and are most probable reason of your diarrhea. Blood in stool is very serious symptom and for sure can not be ignored. You definitely should visit your doctor, have stool test and stool culture test (including stool test for Clostridium Difficile toxins). Antibiotics are necessary to treat your infection (Metronidazolum seems necessary). If no infection will be found, colonoscopy should be done.
Hope this will help. Regards.
