Is It Safe To Give Budecort To A 5 Years Old For A Long Time?

Hello! Our 5 years old baby (wt. 16 kg. & ht. 3 6 ) is taking budecort 100 for last 6 months, 2 dozes of 2 puffs each. In July 2010 she recovered from severe pneumonia and after taking budecort 100, presently she is quite ok. Is it safe to continue budecort for such a long time. Please advice.

Pediatrician 's  Response
Hi, budecort inhalor is given for prolonged period if child have repeated wheezing episodes. Children who have recrrent wheezing tend to improve as age progresses and about 90 percent don't require any medication. I suggest you that if your child has no symptoms or decreased symptoms budecort can be tapered and stopped after 3 to 4 months. I hope this has helped you.
