my son is trying to stop drinking. been a pretty heavy drinker for several years. He has been on Zoloft for about a year and today his Dr ordered Librium to help him with stopping drinking. Is it ok to take Zoloft and Librium together? The Librium is ordered short term with gradual lowering the dosage.

Dear Sir,
Hi & Welcome.

It is not safe to take these medications together.

Taking Zoloft (Sertraline) together with Librium (Chlordiazepoxide) may increase side effects such as dizziness, drowsiness, confusion, and difficulty concentrating.

It may also cause impairment in thinking, judgment, and motor coordination do he should avoid activities requiring mental alertness such as driving or swimming, etc.

Hope to have answered your query.
