Hi,I am Dr. Subhankar Chakraborty (Gastroenterologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi there I have an umbilical hernia there is no pain except for if you touch it, it is very sensitive. I am also a type 1 diabetic, and am skinny and I like to think im pretty fit. I got hit in th stomach with a soccer ball 3 days ago and since then I haven t really had a solid poo. is this something that might be related to the hernia?
Hi. Thanks for your query. Noted the history and understood your concerns. Since there was trauma to abdomen by the soccer ball, there is a possibility that the intestines might have received some injury. Umbilical hernia might not have been directly responsible for the loose motions unless there is partial obstruction of the intestines. I would advise you the following: Tests of stool and blood. Ultrasonography and X-ray of the abdomen in standing position. Constrast enhanced CT scan may also be needed. Clinical evaluation by a General Surgeon to see whether there is obstruction, trauma or just an intestinal infection. Get started with a course of an antibiotic and metronidazole to see for the effects. If the conservative treatment fails, you may need exploratory laparotomy and repairs as needed. Take only water and liquids orally till investigated to get the correct diagnosis.
