Is There A Chance Of Not Contracting HIV After Unprotected Sex?

Hi Doctor. 3 weeks ago, I had a one night stand in which we had unprotected sex twice. She later told me that she is a massage sex worker, but does not often have sex with clients. She said that she was std free, but I cannot confirm that this is true. I never have unprotected sex, so this is not only a rare occasion, but a first time circumstance. I took a hiv rna blood test today, but am stressing over the results that will come in a few days. I know that HIV is a relatively hard disease to catch, but I also know that if she had contracted hiv fairly recently, there is a greater chance of catching it. My question is considering it was vaginal sex, I am a circumcised male, and it was a single night exposure, should I be fairly confident that even if she does have HIV, which she claims not to, I should expect to not have contracted it?

Hi,Welcome to Healthcare Magic.
I am Dr Ramadevi wani. I will be answering your concerns today.

Even a single exposure is enough to contract sexually transmitted diseases. It is not just HIV but many other diseases can be contracted through sex, like chlamydia, Gonorrhoea, warts, syphilis, herpes, Hepatitis etc.
So you should consult STD clinic for tests for these diseases.

As regards HIV, the earliest a test can be done to detect the disease is 3 weeks after the exposure. So get the test for HIV done now. If it is negative you need to repeat it after 3 months.
Henceforth please use condom to protect yourself from sexually transmitted diseases.

I hope this is useful.
If you have further concerns, I will be happy to answer.
