Hi,I am Dr. Gopal Goel (Orthopaedic Surgeon). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Is There Any Procedure To Be Followed Before Scintigraphy?
Female 38 yrs old, 77 kg, 158 cm, i made a regular urine test (not the 24 hr collection) and the metanephrine result was 2.68 nmol/l where the norms indicate 0.37 and the noretanephrine 1.55 where it should be 0.94, should I repeat the test, or make the 24 hr urine test before making a scintigraphy or is there anything I can do (a treatment perhaps) before this procedure?
In my opinion, a 24 hour urine sample is necessary for testing levels of Metanephrine and Normetanephrine in urine. AS these are the active products of catecholamines (Epinephrine, Norepinephrine and Dopamine) excreted in urine through kidneys. As levels of circulating catecholamines differ during the 24 hour period. Hence, a 24 hour urine sample is needed to assess the activity of catecholamines in the body for the whole day. Therefore you are advised to get the test repeated with 24 hour urine sample.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
