Is There Any Risk If Loratidine Is Applied To Patient Having Skin Problem?

An 8 year old patient (inborn hemiplegia, history of seizures, treated with oxcarbazepine (not successful), valproate, levetiracetam, clobazam, then topimarate, medication paused for more than six month, no relapse so far) suffers from severe itching after surgical therapy (4 days ago) of a burn(10% of the skin, split-skin autograft, normal healing so far). Uncommon tolerance to narcotics, probably due to antiepileptic medication in the past, arrested attention, so that otherwise indicated sedatives (I thought of lorazepam) are advised against. Is there a considerable seizure risk when applying loratidine?

Hi. Thanks for posting your concern at HCM.

In my view i don't think it would pose any such risk because it cannot penetrate the intact skin in significant amounts.

take care
regards
