Hi,

The hiatal hernia you have make it easier for the acid in your stomach to get into your esophagus and cause heartburn. The definitive treatment is surgery, but some people still have symptoms even after surgery.

The other way to treat it is with antacid medications, such as Omeprazole. If your symptoms are controlled, I would not recommend the surgery. You (in discussion with your doctor) could try stopping Omeprazole to see if you really need it. There are also other antacid medication you could take such as Ranitidine, Famotidine, or TUMS (Calcium carbonate)
