Is Tightness And Recurring Bruise Normal After Head Injury?

about 7 weeks ago I fell and had a hard hit on the left side of my face. The hardest impact was at my left temple going across to the corner of my eye. My entire face on the left side was swollen, black, blue and a few other colors. It healed nicely and all the bruises faded away. A few weeks later I fell again an hit my mouth hard as I when down on a chair sitting on a porch. My tooth went all the way through my lower lip and I had to see a plastic surgeon for 6 stitches. Now.....my temple is uncomfortable again, the bruise is back and I get sharp pains in that area. I often feel tightness, tingling in the area and it is sensitive to touch. I did not hit this area on my second fall, why would a bruise go away and then come back again?

Hello. Thanks for asking from HCM.

I can understand your concern. The bruising at temple region is most probably due to direct hit. Bruising occurs due to collection of blood in scalp layers due to rupture of blood vessels. It will subside on its own in 10-14 days. Do not worry about it. Sometimes it may occur due to shifting of blood from another area to temple, for example in case of injury to top of head. Management remains same.

For headache and bruise, you can follow few tips

: Apply icepacks at injury site
: Keep your head at higher level than chest
: You can take painkiller like Diclofenac sodium after proper prescription
: Avoid pressure at injury site.
: Still no relief, you can consult doctor.

Hope it will help you. Take care.

Thanks.
