Is Travelling Advisable After A Laparoscopic Appendix Removal?

Hello My daughter (18) has just had her appendix removed via laparoscope on wednesday. She has had two IV courses of antibiotics. the nurse suggested that she doesn t drive for two weeks. My daughter wants to drive tomorrow night!! I would like your opinion on when she should be able to drive. The doctor said see how she goes and depends on when she can properly turn her head. Thank You Kerri

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

Laparoscopic Appendectomy is a common surgery but not a minor surgery as she has undergone the stress of anesthesia as well as of surgery. It is not at all advisable to drive so soon.

Let us know the progress in post-operative period and then decide about the activities she can undergo. Nothing is lost by not driving so no extra risk should be taken.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. T Chandrakant,
