Lactating Mother Taking Ditiazem For Hypertension. Constant Stomach Ache. Stop Medication?

Hi, I am taking 180mg diltiazem for blood pressure. I've only been on it for a few weeks, but I'm starting to have constant stomach pain that is not going away (it's been 5 days now, I can't even sleep at night). Is it safe to completely stop taking the diltiazem? I can't bear the thought of taking another one. I am on diltiazem as opposed to another medicine b/c I am nursing my baby.

Hi,
Welcome to HCM,
Thanks for posting your query.
You are having High blood pressure during lactation, it needs special care to treat such patients. Please do not stop medicine completely.
Treatment choice depend on level of blood pressure and other medical condition,if you are having any symptoms due to Diltiazem then report it to your treating doctor,but do not stop without consulting Physician as it may cause rise in blood pressure or fast heart rate.
There are alternatives like diuretics and beta blockers, If I see a patient in my clinic with similar condition I tell them that Labetalol should be taken for treating high blood pressure.
Please consult your local doctor/specialist for change in prescription.
Please take less salt Please take care.
