Less Urination, Fever, Enlarged Bladder, Chest Infection. Prostrate Operation Done. Tests For Sodium, Potassium Done. Treatment?

My father age 77, urine deposited 1 litre,from 1 month could not eat ,very small,then prostate operation MICRO,went home after 5 days,then within a week become very ill, sodium ,potacium low,oxigen given,doctors still now telling infection,in nurshinghome.Salaine,sometimes rigor come only& sometime with fever. bladder size enlarged,has chest infection also.Treatment going right?His health becoming very bad day by day.Is he can live life without cathederisation?Please help me. Regards

hi sangita, find out his creatinine, repeat electrolyte levels, measure his daily fluid intake and urine output. let me know his pre-operative status and blood and sonography reports. also find out what is the biopsy report of prostate after surgery. Possibilities include urine infection after surgery, electrolyte disturbances (common in this age group), rarely prostate tumor. He should be on catheter, will require antibiotics and IV fluids, adequate nutrition, treatment of his low sodium and potassium. Infection and electrolyte disturbances usually are easily treatable. In some cases, the bladder has already become very weak by the time of surgery, such patients need medicines or intermittent catheter insertion to empty their bladders. In some other cases, even after surgery, patient may not pass urine initially, another week or 10 days of catheter will help. Eventually they will void. Post the above reports if you can. take care.
