General & Family Physician, Dr. Nirmala P's Response
Hi. Thanks for asking in Healthcare Magic.
Calpol and Emiset are only symptomatic and they do not cure the cause of diarrhea. They are given to control fever and vomiting. In diarrhea, the child may get dehydrated. So it is important that diarrhea should be stopped.
If the child is allergic to Taxim, then you should not start it but you should discuss this with your treating Dr. Taxim can result in diarrhea in sensitive individuals. Other antiamebic, antibiotic combination like Metronidazole, Norfloxacin may be more useful.
Bland diet like rice gruel, banana and other fruits, toasted bread and mashed potato are helpful in both diarrhea and fever. Give ORT too as children are more prone to get dehydrated quickly.
