Loose Motion. Calpol, Emset Taken, Taxim-o Forte Prescribed. Should I Start The Antibiotic?

MY SON 4 YRS OLD 15 KG WT had vomitings AND HIGH FEVER (104). we went to doctor and prescribed calpol and emset,after overnight , vomiting stopped but he is suffering from loose motions now . fever is under control by calpol. .doctor also prescribed taxim-o forte, but i did not start it due to a previous adverse history with the child. should i start the antibiotic. child is eating frequently, and not lethargic as of now. but frequently passes loose stools

Calpol and Emiset are only symptomatic and they do not cure the cause of diarrhea. They are given to control fever and vomiting. In diarrhea, the child may get dehydrated. So it is important that diarrhea should be stopped.

If the child is allergic to Taxim, then you should not start it but you should discuss this with your treating Dr. Taxim can result in diarrhea in sensitive individuals. Other antiamebic, antibiotic combination like Metronidazole, Norfloxacin may be more useful.

Bland diet like rice gruel, banana and other fruits, toasted bread and mashed potato are helpful in both diarrhea and fever. Give ORT too as children are more prone to get dehydrated quickly.
