Hi,I am Dr. Gopal Goel (Orthopaedic Surgeon). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have protrusions in lumbar 3,4,5. They say they are not bad enough for surgery. I have pains in my rib cage now, and they have been getting worse as the weeks goes on. I have to stop, and take short breaths and wait till they quit. I thought they were from the protrusions, but ive had xrays, upper and lower mri s, No one can seem to figure out why these are going on? Any suggestions... Thank you...
Hi
Lumbar protrusion is unlikely to cause rib cage pain
Rib cage is big - there are a dozen pairs of ribs. They enclose heart, lung, food pipe and so on.
It is difficult to come to any conclusion - unless further qualified. Where exactly is the pain? What is the character of the pain? What brings it on? What relieves it?...
An internist is the one to see.
You need give a good history and have a physical examination; possibly a few investigations.
Wishing you speedy recovery
Good luck
