Lump Near Calf Muscle, Dark Colored, Painful With Flexion. Has Shin Splints. What Could It Be?

My daughter is a high school track runner. She runs hurdles and sprints mostly. Recently she has a large (slighter larger than egg) size lump on her inner calf muscle that is soft to palpate. She said after a long run it turns slightly darker in color and hurts with flexion. She also has shin splints, not sure if thats related to the lump or not.

Hello and welcome to HCM,

The lump on the calf can be due to injury sustained during running hurdles and sprints.
It could be collection of blood after an injury.
Pain caused during flexion can be due to compression of the nerve during movement.

Consult your doctor for clinical examination.
Investigations like MRI may be required to know exact charater of the lesion.

Thanks and take care.
