Medical Advice On Concussion

My husband received a concussion at work about 3 hours ago. He's still working, but he has a few symptoms. He says he is lightheaded, a bit dizzy, imbalanced, and he seemed giggly over the phone. Does he need to see a doctor, or will he be fine with home care?

Hello. Thanks for asking from HCM.

I can understand your concern. Concussion symptoms usually subside in few days to weeks. For symptoms like lightheadedness, imbalance, he can follow few tips
: Avoid stress both mental and physical
: Ask him to drink at least 2.5 to 3 litre fluids to maintain hydration.
: For vertigo or rotational movement of head, you can give him beta-histine or cinnerizine tablet after proper prescription. Usual dose what I prescribe is 16 mg beta-histine two or three times daily.
: Ask him to complete 8 hours of sleep daily.

If he gets relief, then you can wait.

If symptoms increase in severity or persist even after one week, then you should consult doctor. He might advise you CT scan of head to rule out any intracranial lesion.

Hope it will help you. Thanks. Take care.
