Menopausal With Hot Flashes. Doctors Are Refusing To Prescribe Medicines/ Hormones. How To Treat This?

I am a 63 yr young woman, who has NOT gone for 12 consecutive months without a, perfectly normal, period. I have never had an abnormal pap smear or pelvic, and, to satisfy one Ob/Gyn, I even had a sonogram. I live in Oregon, though I lived most of my life in CA. I NEVER had any problem getting birth control, or, HRT, in Ca., but, here, the doctors are acting like I'm asking for heroine. I have zero risk factors for female cancer. The most recent Ob/Gyn told me that menopause and post menopause are the same thing! She said if she prescribed me hormones, and, I got cancer, I could sue her. I told her that was ridiculous, and, that I would sign a release, but, she was just too paranoid. I had an Rx for Activella, but, had to take twice the dose, to prevent getting a period when my daughter was on hers. What should I do, I can't stand these hotflashes?

Hi,
Welcome to health care magic.
The menopause maybe an acceptable phase of life for some ladies and it has been a long debate in medical literature whether the female hormones should be replaced or not
There was a transition period when hormone replacement therapy was liberally advised maintain the function of females were a routine but with recent experience and studies it has been proven beyond doubt that hormone replacement therapy is more of counter productive than being useful.
There is increase the risk of cardiovascular mortality cerebrovascular accidents and cancer so the hormone replacement therapy has gone into disrepute in the recent medical literature and hardly any of modern concept gyno or physician will consider this for you.
It is not advisable to continue with HRT, if you have been on this then you can taper it gradually and manage symptoms with supportive medicines till your system adjusts.
I hope the advice will be helpful for you.
