Middle toe on my left foot is numb. It is the only toe I am suddenly having problems with.

no but I had back surgery @ L4/5, S1 and I'm currently doing Cortisone injections about every 6-9 months @ same locations.

Did you have an injury to the toe? That is the most common reason.
